The Canōgraphie project is dedicated to capturing the natural gestures of a singer during her singing. This is done through “light painting”, in which pho- tographic long exposures are taken of luminous sleeves attached to the singer’s body. In this way, singing and drawing merge into a single action, while the singer is able to maintain her natural pos- ture, which is essential for the expression of her art. The developed photographic images create a negative image with a black graphic on a white background, reminiscent of the gestures of con- temporary calligraphy.
Singing, Latin “canō” for “I sing”, and drawing, Greek “graphein” for “to write, to draw”, merge into one action. The graphic result shows what the sin- ging body expresses. The singer is able to maintain her natural posture, which is important for her artis- tic expression.
